Top 9 Deck Staining Companies in Carrboro, NC
Preserve your wood with Carrboro’s top-rated deck staining pros and durable, oil-based finishes designed for North Carolina’s seasons.
Your deck looked amazing when it was new. Then a couple of North Carolina summers happened, some thunderstorms rolled through, and winter came and went. Now the wood’s faded, maybe splintering in spots, and you’re avoiding walking barefoot out there.
Staining brings it back. But the contractor you pick determines whether you’re doing this again in a year or enjoying a deck that actually holds up. If you’ve grabbed coffee near Weaver Street Market, you’ve seen how well-maintained wood ages gracefully. That’s what proper staining does.
Compare your options. Just make sure whoever you hire knows the difference between slapping on some color and actually protecting your investment.
1) Fiferum Construction – Featured Contractor
We’ve done over 100 deck staining projects in Durham and Orange Counties since 2004. We use Cabot or Behr oil-based stains because they penetrate deep into the wood and actually protect it from rain, sun, and everything North Carolina throws at it.
Here’s how it works: we pressure wash, sand if needed, handle minor repairs, then apply two coats. Most projects take about four days. One day prep, one day first coat, one day to dry, one day second coat. Then you wait 24 hours and your deck’s ready.
A 200-square-foot deck runs $1,600 to $2,500 for staining. If you’re switching from solid stain to semi-transparent, the price goes up because we’re sanding more thoroughly. We’re upfront about that.
We offer a workmanship warranty that matches the manufacturer’s stain warranty. Decks get walked on constantly, sometimes by dogs, sometimes by barefoot kids running around. Warranting stain is tough, but we stand behind our work. If we messed something up, we fix it.
You should restain every two to three years. Spring’s the best time, right when it warms up. We’ll walk you through what your deck needs and give you a straight answer about whether staining makes sense or if you’re better off with repairs first.

We hired Fiferum Construction this past summer to stain our deck and back stoop and build stairs leading onto the deck. Chelsea and Alex were very communicative and always responded promptly. The stain on the deck turned out great and has held up beautifully so far (5 months later).
They were also great about coming back out to fix an issue we noticed long after the work was complete– the new deck steps had rendered the spigot inaccessible but Alex was able to quickly relocate the spigot and made the necessary stain touch ups to the steps.
We did learn one lesson from our experience– never trust the online color swatches when choosing a stain color! We were trying to match the existing brown and black stain on the deck and the closest Cabot equivalents turned out green and blue! From now on I will always ask for actual sample pots of stain to test the colors before purchasing the full amount.

Fiferum Construction replaced multiple damaged posts holding up our large deck and screened-in porch.
They also stained our deck, front porch and an area off of our basement. From the first contact, they were incredibly responsive and professional.
They showed up when they said that they would and also kept me updated on the work, the timeline and every step along the way.
We’ve worked with several builders and contractors over the years and this was by far the best experience.
In addition, the quality of work and care taken during the job far exceeded our expectations.
I highly recommend Fiferum and intend to use them again for any other work we need to have done in the future!

Conclusion
Staining isn’t glamorous. You’re not adding square footage or building something new. But it’s the difference between a deck that lasts and one that rots out in five years.
Contractors who take shortcuts skip the prep work, use cheap stain, and disappear when the finish starts peeling six months later. We’ve been doing this long enough to know what holds up.
